Using Power BI to Improve Adult Social Care Performance Reporting

Adult social care reporting needs to explain movement through the pathway, not simply display the latest position.

Separate different views of the service

Adult social care reporting brings together people waiting, assessments completed, support provided, expenditure and experience. These measures describe different populations and time periods. Putting them on the same page does not make them comparable.

Power BI can support a coherent view if the underlying model distinguishes the current position from activity over time and outcomes for defined groups. Start with those analytical distinctions rather than choosing chart types.

National measures and local management answer different questions

ASCOF provides a national framework for adult social care outcomes. Keep applicable definitions and reporting periods intact when presenting those measures. Local operational indicators can complement them, but should not be labelled as equivalent when their populations or calculations differ.
